Floris van Bommel Raffa 30088 men's lace-up shoe in cognac. This oxford model with a straight toe cap is part of the classic Van Bommel collection. The shoe is made using the Blake construction method. The tread of the sole has a fine, non-slip profile. The sole's heel is made of vegetable-tanned leather with a stylish hand-finished finish. The heel is divided into two sections by an elegant dovetail joint. The part that bears the most wear while walking is made of durable rubber, while the adjacent part is made of the same vegetable-tanned leather as the heel's heel.
To prevent your heel from getting caught in the hem of your pants, the inside of the heel has been sanded down. Two very fine hair edges have been milled into the side of the sole's edge, both at the top and bottom. The leather upper edge of the shoe is finished to a high standard with a thin welt. On the side of the shoe, the iconic copper "VB" is stamped into the leather by the top eyelet. The lining is made entirely of high-quality calf leather. This shoe is made of beautiful, classic, light brown suede from a tannery in Castelfranco di Sotto, in the Pisa region of Italy. The suede has a short, shaved fiber.

For the first 280 years of our existence, we didn't make sneakers, and that was a wonderful time. We didn't rush from trend to trend, but instead maintained a stable, classic collection. Or so you'd think. In the time of my father, grandfather, and the six generations before that, there was endless study and deliberation about the smallest adjustments to a classic shoe. And if that stitching was shifted by 4 millimeters, a storm of criticism invariably followed. So the changes to the shoes were much smaller, but the magnifying glass hanging over them was much bigger. I thought about that when we were working on this classic. After much study and discussion, we made the sole a few millimeters thicker than usual and made it from lightweight EVA material. Exactly the intervention that would have undoubtedly drawn a lot of criticism from my father and his predecessors. If, in keeping with that tradition, you're upset about this slightly thicker sole, realize that it's always been that way. A classic that doesn't evolve becomes outdated. This shoe, on the other hand, with its few extra millimeters, is a contemporary classic.
