Floris van Bommel The Tanker SFM-60051 chelsea boot for men in H-width (wide fit) in taupe. The sole of this chelsea boot resembles a natural rubber sole, also known as 'crêpe'. Authentic natural rubber looks great but is very fragile. Especially for this boot, a blend of natural and synthetic rubber was developed. The Tanker now has the appearance of natural rubber with the durability of synthetic rubber. The calf leather lining and carefully designed last guarantee long-lasting wearing comfort. This taupe-coloured boot is made of sporty oiled suede from a small suede tannery in Santa Croce sull'Arno in the province of Pisa, Italy.

"In my phone, I keep a list of quotes that I find worth saving. This one by Naval Ravikant is on there too: “All greatness comes from suffering.” That applies to this shoe as well. At the beginning of my career, we made a similar style. The sole back then was 100% crêpe, that is, natural rubber. And... as I learned then, real crêpe means a whole lot of problems. If you wear crêpe soles in winter, they become rock hard from the cold, until you sit with your feet near a heater — then they melt right off your shoes. Natural rubber also tends to turn white and dries out quickly. You can imagine, that season was flooded with complaints. We swore never to use crêpe again. Fast forward to now: we recently came across the rubber mix of the sole on this shoe at our sole supplier. It looks like crêpe, it's nicely transparent, slightly grainy, and also feels like crêpe, but it’s not crêpe. I was genuinely happy to finally bring this style back. Oh... this quote by George Carlin is also on my list: “Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.” But we didn’t go for real crêpe a second time. I hope that means I’m just slightly above average."
